on myself [Sep. 29th, 2007|08:46 pm]

Low self-esteem is the biggest fucking waste of time. Why has it taken me so long to come to this realization? Well, no longer. I don't believe it anymore. I'm kind of amazing, actually.

mmm...donuts... [Jan. 25th, 2006|09:31 am]
You Are a Powdered Devil's Food Donut

A total sweetheart on the outside, you love to fool people with your innocent image.
On the inside you're a little darker, richer, and more complex.
You're a hedonist who demands more than one pleasure at a time.
Decadent and daring, you test the limits of human indulgence.

You scored as Mark. You're Mark! You bury yourself in your work and you tend to stay to the sidelines, but you're sweet and adorable. You probably fall in love hard, and you have trouble saying no. Remember, the fangirls love you when no one else does!

thinking out loud [Oct. 11th, 2005|06:35 pm]
So if for whatever reason I can't move to Turkey after I graduate, how easy would it be for me to find a job AND a place to live in or around Ann Arbor? I don't know why I didn't think of it before, but the main reason why I didn't want to go home is because I don't want to live with my parents and couldn't think of a place to find affordable housing. But then...I realized I could live in Ann Arbor!!!

So yeah, that's Plan B as of now.

Portrait Of The Artist As A Prematurely Old Man
by Ogden Nash

It is common knowledge to every schoolboy and even every Bachelor of Arts,
That all sin is divided into two parts.
One kind of sin is called a sin of commission, and that is very important,
And it is what you are doing when you are doing something you ortant,
And the other kind of sin is just the opposite and is called a sin of omission
and is equally bad in the eyes of all right-thinking people, from
Billy Sunday to Buddha,
And it consists of not having done something you shuddha.
I might as well give you my opinion of these two kinds of sin as long as,
in a way, against each other we are pitting them,
And that is, don't bother your head about the sins of commission because
however sinful, they must at least be fun or else you wouldn't be
committing them.
It is the sin of omission, the second kind of sin,
That lays eggs under your skin.
The way you really get painfully bitten
Is by the insurance you haven't taken out and the checks you haven't added up
the stubs of and the appointments you haven't kept and the bills you
haven't paid and the letters you haven't written.
Also, about sins of omission there is one particularly painful lack of beauty,
Namely, it isn't as though it had been a riotous red-letter day or night every
time you neglected to do your duty;
You didn't get a wicked forbidden thrill
Every time you let a policy lapse or forget to pay a bill;
You didn't slap the lads in the tavern on the back and loudly cry Whee,
Let's all fail to write just one more letter before we go home, and this round
of unwritten letters is on me.
No, you never get any fun
Out of things you haven't done,
But they are the things that I do not like to be amid,
Because the suitable things you didn't do give you a lot more trouble than the
unsuitable things you did.
The moral is that it is probably better not to sin at all, but if some kind of
sin you must be pursuing,
Well, remember to do it by doing rather than by not doing.

Daddy :) [Aug. 2nd, 2005|01:28 pm]
[Current Mood | happy]
[Current Music |Billy Ocean - Caribbean Queen]

On our way to Wayne State, Billy Ocean's "Caribbean Queen" began to play on the radio. Next thing I know, my dad is belting it out (which is REALLY unlike my dad) and we sang (or hummed the parts where we didn't know the words) the entire song together.

We also listen to Sports Radio together on a regular basis and make fun of the callers and commentators.

I usually find it very difficult to get close to my dad, but this summer I have truly felt like we are bonding. I'm gonna miss him when I go back to Wellesley.

[Current Music |Will Smith - Switch]

So I may be moving to Turkey for a year or two after I graduate. It's definitely not a sure thing, but we have a lot of connections (like...my ENTIRE famly) and there's a pretty big demand for English teachers. I think it would be awesome to live there for awhile right after I finish Wellesley. I'd finally be able to polish my Turkish and spend time with my extended family. I REALLY hope it works out. It would be the chance of a lifetime.

Oh, the Hustle [Jul. 28th, 2005|10:44 am]

[Current Music |Van McCoy - The Hustle]

I just had the best memory ever. It was my junior year of high school and I was in the school library with my friend Esinam. Some background: See, we would get kicked out of the library minimum twice a week for laughing too loudly. Edit: We didn't get kicked out; I would get kicked out because the librarian (that bitter old woman) told me that my voice resounded and echoed throughout the library, and that I was basically disturbing the peace. But here's the thing. There was really no where else to go. There weren't that many places to sit in my high school if you weren't in a classroom. The library was definitely the "hang out" area, and EVERYONE talked, but I was always targeted because I couldn't control the volume of my laughter. What should I have done? Even when she kicked me out of the library, I always snuck back in. That lady just liked to be mean to me. She did the same thing to my brother.

So back to this day...well it was Esi's last day of high school since she was a graduating senior and the school year was over. We were sharing our last study hall together and I decided to give her a treat. I took out my laptop and started to play Van McCoy's "Hustle" on medium volume. I got up from my seat and started to do the Hustle in the middle of the library. I even got a few freshmen to join me. It was the most brilliant thing ever. Of course, the librarian chased me out of the room screaming at the top of her lungs. Esi was laughing so hard that she got kicked out too. It was priceless :)

Back in the D [Jul. 5th, 2005|12:30 pm]
I got back Sunday night, but I was so exhausted and jet lagged that I've been doing nothing but sleeping for the past two days. Anyway, I gotta go hit the books before my class tonight, but I just wanted to let everyone know that I'm back and that my father's doing well. He's still in Turkey getting tests done and what not, but he's in good hands (at his brother's house) so no worries :)

Will update about the trip probably late tonight (that is, if I don't fall asleep again like I did last night).

So we rocked Game 7 against Miami. It was FANTASTIC. I really enjoyed watching the game with my dad. He and I don't spend a lot of time together, so I truly value these games where we can bond.

Sean left me the cutest text message: "Congratulations, Mrs. Prince!" Wow, I'm in such a good mood tonight :)

My Baby... [May. 12th, 2005|03:37 pm]
[Current Mood | cheerful]
[Current Music |Vivaldi - Double Cello Concerto]

I went to play my cello today for the first time in over a year. I always say I'll go to Jewett and actually play, but I've never kept my word. Well today, I realized I had my keys with me and I decided that my other errands just had to wait.

Wow, I've missed playing so incredibly much. Why was I such an idiot to drop it? I'm always doing what I think I should be doing (or what my parents want me to do). But when I picked it up and started to play my senior concerto, tears came to my eyes. So many memories! Yes, I will play no matter what next year. I just have to find a good group...

Also, we have determined that he's a huge wanker and I don't know why I was so attached to him. Oh, what 3 years of Wellesley will make you realize about a total jerk. At least he got me thinking about music again, and that's priceless. I've had my closure with him, and I've rediscovered my true love.

PLAYOFFS!!! [Apr. 21st, 2005|01:56 am]
[Current Music |Black Eyed Peas - Let's Get It Started]

I just want to let my friends know in advance that I may be unavailable at the following times due to the fact that I'll be glued to the television watching these basketball games. I want you all to know that your friendship is very dear to me, but you must realize that that these next few weeks are some of the most exciting times of the year in my life. Yes, I realize I am a loser and I need to get over my basketball obsession, but yeah...let's just say that I may choose b-ball over friend time on the following days:

Detroit vs. Philadelphia

Game 1 - Sat April 23 Philadelphia at Detroit 3:00PM 3:00PM ABC
Game 2 - Tue April 26 Philadelphia at Detroit 7:30PM 7:30PM NBATV/RTV
Game 3 - Fri April 29 Detroit at Philadelphia 8:00PM 8:00PM ESPN/TSN
Game 4 - Sun May 1 Detroit at Philadelphia 1:00PM 1:00PM ESPN/SCORE
Game 5 * Tue May 3 Philadelphia at Detroit TBD TBD TBD
Game 6 * Thu May 5 Detroit at Philadelphia TBD TBD TBD
Game 7 * Sat May 7 Philadelphia at Detroit TBD TBD TBD

As Kris can tell you (as I'm sure she remembers from last year), you are always welcome to watch the game with me. You may even have fun because you will witness me screaming obscenities like a maniac. I promise high quality entertainment :)

Best song ever... [Apr. 14th, 2005|10:39 pm]
[Current Mood | exhausted]
[Current Music |Musicals]

I am such a musical geek. If you ever get a chance, listen to "Bring Me My Bride" from the musical A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum. Such a funny song. I seriously guffawed out loud the first time I heard it. I think that my Latin professor's love of this musical was one of the main reasons why I had a huge crush on him. Lesigh...

In other news, I'm going to see the Phantom of the Opera on Saturday with Kris!!! I'm so excited.

Um, also...Ludacris is coming to Wellesley on April 24th! Whut whut...I'm BEYOND psyched. Music makes for a happy topic these days :)
